  • EGPA and powerlifting

    Hi
I am/was a powerlifter until about 4 weeks ago when I was diagnosed with EGPA. The is no loss of irony in this diagnosis during the current C-19 pandemic, especially as I don't have a immune system right now.
Has anyone got experience with this disease?
I am interested to learn about training and competition strategies, after I have finished this acute phase of treatment of course.
    Yours in hope.

    Hi there,

Sorry to hear about this. As you likely already know, this condition is fairly uncommon.

There are no specific modifications we would recommend for training / competition strategies in the setting of EGPA itself, nor are there likely to be modifications we'd recommend based on the medical treatments (common ones involving corticosteroids, cyclophosphamide, and others) outside of managing fatigue and dosing of intensity/volume using autoregulation (e.g., with RPE).

      Austin,
Thanks for the reply. I cannot even consider squatting an unloaded bar right now, air squats take me an hour for me to recover.

Sounds like you have a place to start, then. You'll adapt!

        Good luck
