  • Antidepressants and training impact

I've been powerlifting for a few years now and have been seeing tremendous progress. I am working harder on my diet per your and others' recommendations as I am pretty overweight right now (6'2 260, 42" waist) and things are going well there too. But what I can't find any information on is the impact of anticonvulsants and antidepressants, if any, on training progress. Right now I take 150 mg lamictal and 150 mg Wellbutrin daily and it works for me. Are there any indications that these drugs would have an impact on either my weight loss or my training progress? I know lamictal can be a CNS depressant but I do not know if that has any meaningful impact on muscle activity.

Don't worry, I won't change my medication without a thorough discussion with my prescribing physician first. But he doesn't know much about lifting and I would appreciate any guidance you might offer. Thanks!

I wouldn't have any concerns about these medications impacting training results. You should be good!
