  • Methylenetetrahydrofolatereductase

Are any of the claims related to the association between Methylenetetrahydrofolatereductase and anxiety/elevated cardiac risk due to excess homocysteine valid? Also, why not just order a folate level prior to prescribing folic acid for someone with positive genetic testing?

Elevated homocysteine levels are associated with increased cardiovascular risk. However, the available evidence doesn't seem to show that treating these levels back down has a commensurate effect on lowering cardiovascular risk (for example: https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/28816346/ ).

The only anxiety I would have is how the hell to pronounce Methylenetetrahydrofolatereductase. Holy god what a conglomeration of letters.
