  • Best morning preworkout meal?

My schedule has gotten pretty tight lately and I'm kind of forced to train early in the morning (5-6AM). What would be the best preworkout meal in this case. I usually get up around 4:30AM.

If you're getting up and training within an hour of waking, I would do 1 scoop of whey soaked in instant oats (40g) and enough water to mix them overnight. I'd slam that right after waking up and then sip some coffee on the way to the gym.

I'm eatinge150g oats, whey, milk, and other stuff, 1000 kcal meal and then train 30 min later, to save time.
Is that too big meal to train right after it?

        Hi Jordan,
I too train early in the morning, but I try to consume more food - 1 scoop of whey soaked in instant oats at 06:30 - followed by 1 more scoop of whey with water during my training (07:30-09:00) and a quick snack and 0.5L of milk just after the training at 09:30. All three meals together should give me about 30g of protein.
Although lately reading your articles on nutrition I started doubting if all these meals contribute to muscle building because from what I understand from your articles the meal consumed within 3 hours after the first consumption of protein is a waste and has no impact on muscle protein synthesis.
Is my understanding correct? If yes, how would you organize it?
        Thanks a lot.

I would have all of that prior to training, then eat again around 930am.

If i am training within an hour of waking, I like one scoop of whey and pasta (120 gr raw) with tomato sauce. And also coffee on the way to the gym

Yea I think that's a big meal, but if it's working for you...carry on.

You've never had whey parm? Your next trip needs to be to Italy.

Man, I live in Italy and I can assure you nobody here would ever have a pasta with any sauce first thing in the morning.

He probably doesn't put the whey on the pasta unless that's how they roll in Chile.
