How important is breakfast (pre-workout)?

    In general, performance during fasted exercise seems to be reduced compared to having a meal prior to training. To what extent depends on the mode and the individual, e.g. long or high intensity work tends to suffer more than short or low intensity exercise and trained folks tend to do better than untrained folks.

    In any case, I wouldn't worry about MPS here as it's not really going to make a difference.

    How important is breakfast (pre-workout)?

    Thoughts on the importance of breakfast (or pre-workout snack) before workouts?

    I work out first thing in the morning (3 times a week, phase 2 of the Beginner Template), and have coffee and a protein bar (20-25g protein, with carbs) 30 minutes to an hour before I start the workout.

    In the interest of calorie restriction, I'm thinking of waiting to eat until after I workout, just wait for breakfast, but am wondering if that will have a significant impact on MPS.
