  • Stretching and Injury Risk

    Hi,

I understand that static stretching probably has no significant effect on performance outcomes related to strength training. However, I simply enjoy static stretching as I find it can be nice compliment to strength training given that in strength training you are constantly aiming to contract muscles to perform a movement whereas, although there is contraction in static stretching, there is a lot of focus on relaxing muscles in static stretching. As I said, I understand that there is probably no performance benefit from static stretching in regards to strength training, but I still enjoy it so I would just like to know if there is any significant evidence of an increase in injury risk due to static stretching?

    Thanks!

We have a lengthy discussion of this topic here: https://www.barbellmedicine.com/blog...ity-explained/

I would not be concerned about a significant increase in injury risk from stretching in a way you enjoy.
