  • A question about neck and shoulder pain

I did an MRI of the cervical spine in the past couple months, I attached my MRI results. long story short, I already do physiotherapy right now, but my question is that can be my neck the reason for my shoulder pain *whether for overhead or incline or flat press, flyes etc.. or any exercise that causes me pain* ? I did a shoulder MRI 2 years ago and it showed nothing.

Hey - why was the MRI ordered? Those findings don't give me much concern from a management stance. Yes, upper extremity symptoms can be related to the neck but typically this does not alter management.

Since my shoulder MRI indicated nothing, the doctor asked for an MRI on my neck and this was the result. Right now I currently do physiotherapy in both my shoulder and neck, I asked my physiotherapy doctor about my neck, and if it was the reason for my shoulder pain and he affirmatives it.
But I was getting a little worried or confused, is it really the cause for my pain ? specially in one shoulder more than the other ?

Without a consultation with you it is difficult for us to adequately weigh in on your situation. The imaging may not have been necessary but now that it has been completed perhaps it supplies a broader clinical picture to your situation. The cervical spine indeed can be involved with upper extremity symptoms, but rarely does this change our management to the situation. If you've not already done so, I recommend checking out some of our discussions on the multifactorial pain experience and what tends to matter the most for self-management. Start HERE.

I read it before and heard a lot of podcasts where Austin spoke about pain etc.. I lowered my weights and everything but pain was still there it was felt in weight-free movements, stretches etc.. . I had to do a surgery *non shoulder/neck upper body related* so I had to stop going to the gym for a few months, so I took this free-gym period to focus more on my pain and recovery.
Thanks Michael, really helped comforting me.
