  • Should I be concerned?

    Hello BBM!

I recently tweaked my neck/back. I really don't know where the pain is exactly, but seems to be around C6 to T1 (based on this picture - https://www.epainassist.com/images/w...4-syndrome.jpg) and more so on the right side.

Based on experience with this tweak (it has occurred 5 times now - initially in 2009 and typically happens during vertical push/pull movements), it generally resolves in around 5-10 days and I am still able to train through the pain.

The pain however isn't what concerns me as I have been through this before and I know I'll be fine. What concerns me is now I have this uncomfortable, tingling/vibrating (almost numbing?) type of sensation radiating in my upper left back which I've never had before. It's usually more intense after doing some back movements (i.e. rows/RDLs etc.) and kind of goes away when I lay on my back for a few minutes. It's basically on and off, it comes and it goes so I can't tell what triggers it (save for the recent neck/back tweak)

There is no pain, but it's just kind of unnerving and uncomfortable. At what point should I consult a healthcare professional (if at all)?

    Thanks!

Hey - sorry to hear about your situation. We did a neck series recently that you may find helpful, starts here: https://www.barbellmedicine.com/blog...-risk-factors/

Otherwise, we need a consultation with you to provide individual advice and recommendations. We'd be happy to consult, just complete our intake paperwork here: https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1F...ilUWA/viewform If that's not an option and you are concerned about the situation, then consulting with a local clinician would be reasonable.

Things seem to have calmed down quite a bit thankfully. I still get it every now and then, but the intensity, frequency and duration of the tingling/vibrating is pretty much negligible at this point. Same thing with the neck/back pain. Don't know if the two are related but I'm essentially back to normal programming.

I'll be sure check out the neck series.

      Appreciate the response Dr. Ray!
