  • Training after thumb UCL reconstruction

    Hi,
I am looking at an operation to reconstruct my thumb ucl. I believe it will be done by tendon graft using my palm. Longus.

    couple of questions.

    1. Can one go back to heavy lifting after a successful surgery and rehab protocol. Meaning, can the thumb be just as strong. I am a not so strong 53 yo man. I do not compete.
    2. when I am done w the surgery, is this something I could use a bbm Consult for?

    thanks for any help.
    Glenn

You can most certainly return to return to heavy training.

We could certainly do a consult but for most hand matters I tend to defer to Natasha Barnes. She works with lifters and climbers and has a lot more experience with the post op protocols here.
