Push-Pull Ratio

The S&C department I am currently interning at are apparently die hards for the push-pull ratio. Can anyone lead me to literature (or lack there of) about this topic? Im just the lowly intern, so I need science to back me up. Thanks!

There isn't any that we're aware of.

It's all made up bullshit that sounds just plausible enough to be true, especially when delivered from a person in a perceived position of authority.
