  • Powerlifting II

I just finished the first week of powerlifting 2 and I have some questions. 1) I was intending to pull sumo at my meet, but the only deadlift overload movement I am able to perform is the standing on bands variant, and I don't know that I should be doing that with a sumo stance. What would you suggest for this? Is the conventional banded deadlift sufficient for overload even though I'm performing sumo for my meet or should I perform a beltless deadlift for my overload? 2) I'm confused with the bench overload. The floor press is programmed on day 2 and on day 4, the bench overload movement states that a block press is sufficient. Is this right? Can I do the floor press and then the block press later in the week as the bench overload? 3)For the overload squat, I just performed beltless squats, as I haven't purchased bands yet. Could this be sufficient or is it reccomended that I purchase the bands? If so, do you have any reccomended sources as how to use bands for squats? Thank you for your time.

    ZK,

Thanks for the post. Some answers for ya:

    1) I would pull sumo + bands for your overload movement
    2) The floor press is explicitly programmed on day 2. I'd do bench + bands if you can. Board press is fine too.
    3) I thought you said you have bands? If not, I'd just do beltless squats.

You can use the same bands for all overload work for the most part: https://www.roguefitness.com/rogue-monster-bands (#1 reds)

      Dr Feigenbaum,

Thank you for your response. I wasn't sure how to go about pulling sumo with bands but I figured it out. I ordered some bands. For the banded bench, should it be reverse banded, with the band resisting the eccentric? Should the banded squats be performed the same? Thanks for your time!

I've done Powerlifting 2 and for bench press overload I really liked using a Sling-Shot.

Yep, the sling shot is a great tool.

I would like the bands to be anchored on the floor or the bottom of the rack and then looped over the bar, e.g. a traditional band setup...not reverse bands.
