Sorry to hijack the thread but what would be a sign that someone is setting up with hips too high? I follow the 5 step deadlift set up but notice that the first thing to happen whenever I go to pull is that my hips both drop and go back slightly. I'm not sure if this is because I'm not setting my hips in the right spot or if it's because I'm opening my hip angle too soon or some other form error. Also, I do care about deadlifting the most amount of weight I can so I'd like to fix this if necessary.
Sometimes the hips will drop and/or the bar will swing off the legs. Hard to say without seeing it, ya know? I think you may benefit from a form check: https://www.barbellmedicine.com/shop...ne-form-check/

There are certain mechanical advantages to having the hips at the "right" height for a given individual compared to "too high". This is why people can deadlift more than they can stiff-leg deadlift (where the hips are left higher). If the absolute weight being lifted is not especially important to you, there are otherwise no significant disadvantages or risks to deadlifting with the hips higher vs. lower.

Hips too High on the deadlift.

I have a suspicion that i deadlift with my hips too high. Obviously i will work to correct the form but I'm wondering what are the disadvantages of deadlifting like this?
