  • 50 minute Session Protocol for All Levels

    Hey Docs,

I work at a Fitness Center/PT Clinic and we have Small Group Training sessions available to clients. We currently have about 350 clients of all ages and training levels. In your opinions how would you best structure a 50 minute workout? Would it look similar to the Time Crunch Template?

Probably the first two exercises of the Beginner Template given the population you're likely working with. I'd encourage them to do conditioning on their own.

To give more context in order for more feedback we structure it as so:

      General Warm-Up 5 mins:

      - Usually nothing related to the given movements of the day and requiring lots of explanation of weird plank variations etc etc

Three Movements (here's an example from today):
      - Bar Hangs 30 seconds on 30 seconds off 5 rounds
      - Jumps 40 reps DL or SL 20x/ e side with variable levels (I vote it out because we're on our sixth injury having 70 year olds jumping off boxes)
      - Deadlift 3x3 (No RPE's *sad face*)

In general strength training I know this is better then nothing but however I feel as if there's a better way to serve this population. All insights are appreciated.

P.S. I train 36 clients at this gym 1-1 and they all ask why I train differently than the Small Group. I'm sure you can see why from what's stated above. LOL.

This may be outside of your control, but why is the group training structured like that? If you can change it, I'd do that. If you can't change it, well...I'm not sure what we're talking about.

If you can change it, I'd do something similar to the beginner template with auto-regulation.

That's a great question. I don't know why it's structured like that. One of the Physical Therapists fell in love with Ben Patrick (kneesovertoesguy) because those exercises helped him now he thinks everyone should do it. We also do 50 pushups in session because he said 50 is a cool number to tell people you can do.
