  • Plug-in for stalled upper body lifts on novice LP

In the 3/23/18 BBM Newsletter (Vol 3, Issue 2, Sup 1) a Plug-in for stalled upper body lifts on novice LP is included. Do you think this plug-in will work for a 55 yr old male?

My Press and Bench Press are stalling w/ 3 sets of 5 (even with microloading)...I want to keep making progress on the Press and Bench

current work sets are Press 105lbs, BP 170lbs.......I'm 6ft tall, 205 lbs

    thanks for your help,

Thanks, should I Bench and Press every training session or should I alternate bench and press like on the SSLP?

I am sorry if this is a duplicate post, I thought I posted the follow-up question below but it must not have worked:

Thanks, I will give it a try

Should I bench and press during every training session, or alternate upper body lifts like is done on the novice LP? Reading the description of the plug-in in the newsletter I am unsure.

        thanks again!

The newsletter description seems pretty clear that you do both lifts in both sessions:

          Workout A
          Squats per SSLP
          Bench x 1
          @ +5% from last 5 x 3 sets on LP, then take 15% off the bar for 5 reps x 5 sets
          Deadlift per SSLP
          Press x 8 reps x 4 sets @ -12% from previous press 5 x 3 sets on LP

          Workout B
          Squats per SSLP
          Press 1 @ +5% from last 5 x 3 sets, then take 15% off the bar for 4 reps x 6 sets
Power Cleans or Rows per SSLP
          Close grip bench x 8 reps x 4 sets @ -15% from previous bench press 5 x 3 sets on LP

Out of interest, why was the decision made to keep the press twice but introduce a variety for the second bench day?
