  • Any unique health benefits from power & plyo training not provided by RT?

    Hey BBM Crew,

I was recently having a discussion regarding power & plyo training with a fellow trainer. I personally rarely include it with gen pop clients, as I have very limited time with them, and to my knowledge, resistance training confers the greatest health benefits/has the best ROI for gen pop.
We were overviewing our knowledge of the health benefits of RT, and began discussing potential adaptations incurred from power & plyo... but, I realized I had no knowledge of empirical data re: health benefits (other than potentially reduce fall risk in older pop).

So, my question is: is there any evidence that power and/or plyometric training confers any unique health or "quality of life" benefits that resistance training alone does not?

    Thanks for your time.

    Simple answer, no.

Long answer, there is some data showing that metrics of power inversely correlate to mortality risk, but this doesn't seem to be independent of low velocity strength.
