    Hello,

    I was wondering on the deadlift if my foot positioning should be slightly farther away than mid-food. I have heard this was a tip given by Chad Wesley Smith. I personally think that the bar over mid-foot with the bar slightly touching my legs is safer. I was wondering if my letting my breath out slowly from the lockout position of the deadlift is better than holding my breath the whole way through. Also, can someone recommend a good video on how to execute hook grip?

    I assume you mean the barbell slightly farther away than mid-foot. If this is the case, then no. During a heavy deadlift, the barbell will want to come up from the middle of the foot, as that is where your balance and force production will want to be. Alan Thrall and Austin Baraki do a good video about this. You won't die if it isn't though.

    This depends on what you mean by "better". Safer? Probably not, but not to any significant degree. Easier? Depends. During RDLs, its probably harder overall breathing out on the way down instead of vice versa. The same cannot be said about conventional though, where I think it is okay if you want to breath out. I personally do. Again, you won't die if you experiment a little and find what you like.

    And Alan Thrall's hook grip. Its not too complicated, just takes some practice.
