Isn't he motto of BBM: Whadda ya gonna do, not train?...or is it: It's NUANCED!

At any rate, radiation is going...the doctors seem to feel that everything is going according to plan, though they're a bit quizzicle about my profound fatigue. That said, if they're happy, I'm...happy?

It is an incredibly unnatural act to continue to get up on the table, lie down and receive one' daily dose of radiation. Halfway through these sessions, I want to get up and run out of the room (sessions take about 3-4 minutes).

Have you ever watched Soylent Green?...Charlton Heston, Edward G Robinson. Anyhoo, EGR's final scene has him walking in to a facility, as he's about to give up his life. The why's and wherefore's are immaterial. The room where he is euthanized is clean and bright, the attendants ask him what his favorite music is, and memories are. And they provide him with beautiful pastoral scenes, along with the music of Peer Gynt..very soothing.

So what pops in my head that first day, OMG this room is set up just the same way!!! Beautiful pastoral scenes on the ceiling, any music you want played is piped in...I started to laugh to myself, but had to stop so that I wouldn't move on the table and screw things up. SOYLENT GREEN IS PEOPLE...

And that's how radiation is going to date, 6 days down, 22 to go...

      • gymdad150 Hahahaha.. ok the way you describe Soylent Green and the room and how it relates to radiation made me laugh because OMG don't we do that all the time!! See a situation and relate it I am sorry to hear about your fatigue, now it sounds like not only do you have to kick cancer in the dick but also fatigue. I am proud of you that even though you are fatigued you are continuing on and not letting it get to your training!! At the gym while walking endlessly on the treadmill I was watching whatever was on at the gym and it was a lady learning to hold her breath underwater for over 2 min when prior to the training she could hold it for about 40 seconds. The key was keeping your brain calm while in a terrorizing situation... Kinda like Radiation. Also the great thing is, the more you do the radiation the less anxious you will be, I bet by number 10 you will be maxin' and relaxin' on the table Have you ever tried the 5 senses meditation? This is a nice one because it truly keeps you in the moment and keeps your mind super busy which it sounds like would not be a bad option for you during radiation.

Know I am sending positive vibes your way!!!

        • mybeautifulparadoxiallife I felt that underwater breathing example! A couple of us in the gym were talking about the fight/flight mechanism when unracking a PR effort Squat tonight...and I said my feeling was terror, but I've learned to control that feeling (see: Dune, the Bene Gesserit prayer)

I've been practicing and listening to meditation videos for the last month or so...definitely helpful.

          Stay tuned...

            #kickcancerinthedick reps/sets

            Cycle 3

            Spoto Bench - 70kg 5*5
            Close Grip Bench - 57.5kg 10*3
            Tempo Hi Bar - 80kg 5*5
            Dumbbell Bench - 50lbs 10*4
            Kroc Rows - 80lbs 10*4

For not hitting up the pre workout, I got through this session nicely.

After watching just about everyone in my gym compete a few weekends ago, and seeing the last few athletes get ready for the Arnold or Collegiate Nationals, I've set a goal of stepping on the platform in late August. A local meet just got added to the calendar, and if I come out of these cancer treatments in reasonable condition, I want to get back on the platform. Coach agrees, and I'm excited! FUCK CANCER...hmmph!

            • gymdad150 One other thing.. can you hold ice cubes in your hand when you go into radiation? If you can I would do it.. the cold from the cubes are uncomfortable and they are based in reality and will calm the other parts of your brain that wants to go into flight mode which is essentially causing what sounds like a little bit of a anxiety attack...this will help... Sounds crazy but totally works!!

OMG OMG OMG I am sooooo excited about the meet in Aug!!! THAT my dear so so fucking exciting!!!! You ARE going to kick some ass!!!!

That's fantastic, Chas. Not too far off either.

                  Wide Grip Larsen Bench - 65kg 6*4
                  Press - 45kg 5*5

A weeks worth of accumulated fatigue from radiation treatments: 9 days down, 19 to go.

Took a while to get the train in motion, but once we did the lifts went well...the recovery period, well that sucked.

                    IYT - 10lbs 12*3

Gonna have low bar shoulders in 48 hours.

Never done pin squats before, they're fun.

Oh, radiation has started to wreak havoc on my intestinal tract...FML. Fortunately Imodium seems to work right now...

                      Radiation day 12 of 28...

                      Close Grip - 60kg 5*5
                      Wide Grip - 70kg 5*5
                      Paused LB - 80kg 5*5
                      Pull Ups - bw 10*3
                      Standing IYT - 10lbs 12*3

I had to go to the Imodium prior to the session, my intestines are not happy. Add to that, I have low level nausea.

But it was a good session in spite of the bubble gut.

                      • Amazing work, Chas. Those 10-rep pull ups would be impressive under any circumstances. And with radiation therapy...really exceptional. So you're almost at the halfway mark in your therapy.

Radiation day 14 of WHO THE FUCK KNOWS!!!

Beltless, Paused, Deficit Deads, with slow eccentric 120kg 4*5
                              Hip Thrusts - 70kg 10*4
                              Spoto Larsen - 75kg 5*5
                              Press - 50kg 3*3

A good session, even with getting hit with the trots after the first set of Deads.

So I received a kick in the balls Friday. I thought my treatment regimen called for a 28 day course of radiation. It turns out that, no no no, it's 45 FUCKING DAYS. I was too taken aback to ask what the fuck is going on while I was there, but I'll be a bit more on my game come Monday.

Hopefully it's just a miscommunication and not something more "serious"...fingers crossed.

                                Radiation Day 15

                                Pin Squat - 105kg 5*5
                                Tempo LB - 85kg 3*10
                                Tempo Goblet Squat - 15kg 8*5
                                Belt Squat - 50kg 12*3

Hard morning of treatments, and intestinal distress.

I'm pushing as hard as I can...I wonder if I'm pushing too hard?

                                I'm really tired...
