Thoughts on at home HITT. As many of us during this time I am lifting from home. Usually I do HITT a the gym on the Jacobs Ladder and once in awhile on the arc trainer these are the two situations that do not create great pain in my knee. I walk alot however that is really not HITT. In saying that, although physically I can run, jump and move side to side I have intense pain in my knee and then continue to have pain for a couple days following so I avoid these movements and life is fantastic! (not something new or interesting even, just a thing) Thoughts on HITT while at home without messing with my lifting… meaning I know I could do a weight circuit but then I don’t want to mess up my lifting the next day because the volume would make me sore… or does that not matter? I don’t know. Maybe it doesn’t and I am overthinking (which is totally possible:) I guess I am good either way. Anyway thoughts on a good HITT without sprinting or jumping. I do have barbells, dumbbells, medicine balls, kettlebells, lots of bands and a punching bag. I feel like I am putting up roadblocks and I don’t mean to, just trying to find a HITT without so much pain and without reducing what I can lift and really during this time does it matter?
MBP,
One cool thing to do, should you have access, would be to push a car while it’s in neutral for 25 yards or so for your intervals. The high force production, but relatively low velocity should be tolerable for you. Make sure someone is in the driver’s seat though. Could also do farmer’s walks up a slight hill with the dumbbells or kettlebells.
If you can’t do that, I think given some of these restrictions I’d just do more LISS and skip the HIIT for now. I don’t love circuits for HIIT unless someone wants to get better at them (a la CrossFit) or prefers them for some reason. I think the overall conditioning fitness adaptation is relatively low compared to the fatigue so, it’s not my preference for someone who is prioritizing strength and/or hypertrophy.

@Jordan_Feigenbaum hahahahaha… OMG I LOVE THIS!!! This is SOLID advice, I’m a bit giddy to push a car…LEGIT!!! I CAN TOTALLY DO THAT and honestly would never have thought about it THANK YOU!!! If I could and everyone wasn’t social distancing I would hug you for this. This is perfect and a ton of fun to do (and I know I can do this as I have pushed ALOT of stuck cars out of the snow:). Farmers walks are a great idea too, just not as entertaining to think about:).
Thank you Jordan!! Stay SAFE!
