Autism and Training

Hello all,
I recently adopted a severely autistic 6 year old, and am having trouble getting more than six hours of sleep (two 3-hour sessions) because he wakes up consistently btw 12am and goes to bed at 4am. I’m no longer recovering as I should, but I’m trying not to modify training any more than I have; I am down to 2-3 fullbody routines/week.

I’m currently looking at medication to help him stay asleep, but I’m not familiar with it enough. Would there be any that you all recommend that I can talk with his Dr about? Melatonin is not working (10mg @ 45lb).

On another note, do you have any recommendations for ABA therapy in NC?

Unfortunately I am not a pediatrician and do not have anywhere near enough experience with autism or pediatric sleep medicine to give you good advice here. Wish I could help more – sorry about that.

No doubt you have already found this, but perhaps for others:

I am not from NC and have no experience with this organization, but it appears similar to a regional organization in New England that I have found to be a valuable resource for families and patients. They will have lists of local care providers as well as social/workshop groups for clients and also support groups and resources for families.
