Back degeneration on a 15 year old

Hey, I have one of my online clients who is powerlifting (age 15) who’s been apparently diagnosed by his doctor with a degeneration in his spine due to “bad form and heavy weights”.
I’d love to know your thoughts on this given that he’s 15, his technique is pretty much on point and he’s still able to squat and deadlift, just sometimes with back pain. I find it incredibly hard to believe in that diagnosis.

You probably need more info so I’d be glad to provide it to hear your opinion.

Also, I’m interested if it’s possible that he does an online consult with you. I don’t know how effective a consult of this type is online.

Thanks, and I’m eager to hear your thoughts

Hey Mati Esquenet - thanks for the questions. Yes, we’d need a consultation with him to weigh in on this. We do not consult remotely for pain and rehab for individuals under the age of 18. With that said, I’ve seen data on this age group presenting with such spinal alterations and asymptomatic. I’d be more curious what led to the consultation and how has he responded since.

He has presented back pain but not even in the spine area, it’s more towards the side (mid lat area). I honestly don’t trust regular doctors since to be honest they tend to be very missinformed regarding the pain science presented in BBM. I’m afraid a bad diagnosis will affect his training and especially given the fact that he’s 15 that would not be any good.

Would you be able to do the consultation if he’s in the presence of an adult?

Yes, we would be able to do that.
