Using an (evidently somewhat dented on one end) barbell to do my lifts and it takes care of the job, but I think I could be in the market for a new barbell soon. Will be used for training, and I have no interest in olympic lifts, so bench/squat/deadlift general purpose barbell. Currently DL is E1RM of 425-445, so most anything will do the job (though I can always be optimistic about future growth ;)). Is the answer just get an Ohio bar and don’t look at alternatives? What are the reasonable alternatives?
On another note–I realize RepOne isn’t quite out yet (at least I don’t think so?), but does anyone who is happy with the way they judge RPE have experience with how they can help manage fatigue or give a sometimes more objective 2nd opinion? Currently I am suspicious of:
-
I think I consistently underrate BP RPE but .5 to 1. I have either failed or not attempted the final rep (knowing it will fail) in an @9 on BP 3 times this year, and I think part of the reason is I was lying to myself about the previous @7 and @8 weights.
-
I think I intermittently overrate squat RPE by up to 1.5. Or it could be a variance in depth/pausing at the bottom instead of bouncing/etc. I video each set and watch when I’m done, but sometimes I’m still not sure and think it would be nice to have some objectivity in a device that doesn’t have personal interest in the outcome.
Generally @6 vs @7 is tough on every exercise.
There are a couple pricey alternatives, but openbarbell seems to have been pretty popular and I’m curious if anyone did the beta for repOne/has any experience with openbarbell.
Thanks!
