Conditioning Question for S&C program

Hello, I had to take a few weeks layoff but I’m back training and going to restart the General Strength and Conditioning program I purchased. Question is, I joined a gym with my daughter and wife so I could use equipment for my conditioning. My weight sessions will still be done in my garage home gym. I’ve neglected cardio and conditioning for far too many years. I’m a big hiker and-backpacker here in the White Mountains of NH, the trails are steep. I want to get as much direct carryover for my hiking from my conditioning and want to use the Stairclimber machines they have for my steady state sessions…Is this a solid choice with regards to my thinking?

Is anyone familiar with these machines? Would they be a good option for my HIT sessions as well? Can those machines be programmed harder so it would make a good HIT option?

Kgudz,

I’m not sure that you can do HIIT on a stairmaster unless you’re good at running stairs- it’s hard to do on a stairmaster. I’d probably stick to the rower, air bike, hill sprints, prowler, sled, or similar. That all being said, if you haven’t been doing much conditioning work, you’re likely to see significant carry over from one modality to another, as there’s substantial room for development here.
