This question is aimed mainly at your boy @Alex_Kovaleski
I use the emerging strategies protocol, so TTP is a big part of that.
The date of my next meet has been moved forward a couple of weeks.
The original plan was to run a developmental block for 5-6 weeks (my usual TTP) and then taper the week of competition (performing meet warm-ups and openers).
Now the time from the start of my developmental block to competition is only going to be 4 weeks.
Should I still taper the week of competition, resulting in only 3 weeks of proper training? Or should I just run the developmental block as is all the way up to competition time? But run the risk of going into a comp more fatigued than I should be (last training day would be on a Friday and comp would be on Sunday).
Thanks
We have two main ways to proceed based on a true Emerging Strategies framework, in which TTP is believed to be most strongly linked with the number of exposures to the competition movement instead of weeks.
The first option is to run one week of two exposures, then three weeks of one exposure. The second option is to run two to three weeks of two exposures, one week of one exposure, then a taper week. However, the best option is the first option because you don’t want to taper unless absolutely necessary in an Emerging Strategies framework since you only use tapers to extend cycles (e.g., when your TTP is 6 and your competition is in 7 weeks).
Here is a general template for how I’d structure a microcycle with 2 competition exposures per movement and four training days:
P1
COMP Squat
COMP Bench Primary
COMP Bench Secondary
COMP Deadlift
P2
SDE Squat
SDE Bench Primary
SDE Bench Secondary
SDE Deadlift
P3
COMP Squat
COMP Bench Primary
COMP Bench Secondary
COMP Deadlift
P4
SDE Squat
SDE Bench Primary
SDE Bench Secondary
SDE Deadlift
