Exercise Selection and Novel Stimulus

After spending some time with multiple templates, I’ve inferred a probable recommendation of switching out exercises (if not the competition lifts, certainly assistance/supplemental stuff) every 4 to 6 weeks. So, if you do assistance exercise x for 4-6 weeks before replacing it with exercise y, how long does it take, in general (if there is an “in general”), before exercise x will be as stimulating as it was at the beginning of the 4-6 weeks? Is that time frame less due to novel stimulus and more due to some other consideration?

Thanks

That’s a good place to start for exercise variation variation (see what I did there?), but in practice I have programmed both more frequent variation (weekly) as well as less variety (6-8 weeks).

It really depends on the individual’s response, preferences, and overall goals.

If someone is able to build momentum for whatever goal is important to them via reduced variation change then we’ll do that. Conversely, if someone prefers more variation or has a goal that requires more variation change, then we’ll do that!
