I asked about this over at Exodus, but figured would get better information here. There was a previous question about aortic aneurysms, but I’m going to try to ask a slightly more pointed question than was asked before.
My dad was just diagnosed with a thoracic aortic aneurysm. It became symptomatic, so it was caught before it ruptured/dissected, which is all well and good. Surgery to correct it will likely be happening in the next few weeks. Anyways, I learned that my grandfather and one of my dad’s uncles also had thoracic aortic aneurysms, both of which ruptured. Anyways, turns out there’s a tendency in my family to develop these things, which fills me with joy. I’ve have been lifting for years, and have obviously never had an issue, but given the increased family risk, would it be prudent to be screened before resuming lifting?
I’ll have to talk with a cardiologist too about future plans, since there’s likely to be an increased risk of one developing. Joy…
