Follow up on post-back pain athletes

This was one of the articles that was a big help in changing how I practically view the rehab process (alongside the excellent articles by Austin and Jordan), but I’m curious to know what the progress is like now 4 years post-article as she mentioned still being on the journey to recovery. Couldn’t find any follow-up articles, nor anything lifting related on her Instagram post-2018, so she may not be competing anymore.

In any case, is it generally the experience of practitioners/coaches here that drug-free individuals spring back from tweaks/“injury” to the point where they normally progress past previous PRs without constant flare-ups or debilitating issues? I recall reading that the biggest predictor of “injury” or pain is previous “injury” but I’m not sure if that still holds.

She ultimately returned to normal life and full function, and has moved on from competitive lifting to other goals/sports she enjoys.

There are always going to be speed bumps and setbacks as part of life, but yes, that is our general experience.

Thanks for the update! Glad to hear that.

True, and I wouldn’t expect someone would be entirely free of issue perpetually, but it’s good to know it doesn’t end up being a defining issue. Thanks for the response.
