GPP Upper back alternatives

Hi all,

I’ve been at it for 9 months. Worked through LP, the bridge, hypertrophy I and am just in the second week of strength 1.

Recently I aggrivated an old neck injury causing muscle tightness and pain in the scapula and right arm. Most likely due to poor form while doing pulldowns and rows.

Are there any recommendations for targetting the lower back during GPP sessions and giving the neck/scapula area a break while still sticking with the program?

Cheers,

I probably wouldn’t substitute/add in direct lower back work instead of the programmed upper back work in this situation, assuming you are already training the deadlift and squat regularly.

Instead, you could use those GPP slots for more targeted rehab work to the affected area, or some extra arm/shoulder work, until things are back to normal.

Thanks for the reply!

Taking a look at a related post back in 2019 https://forum.barbellmedicine.com/forums/pain-and-rehab-q-a-with-dr-derek-miles-and-dr-michael-ray/30024-two-things-scapular-pain-and-bicep-tendinopathy going to a 12-15 rep range on some targeted exercises for the GPP and reducing reps as things get back to normal seems to be the way forward.

Since I’m just starting week 3 of the Strength I template, do you think restarting at week one ( low stress) is a viable option or should I press onwards.

Starting with a low stress week may be a good idea to get things to start calming down.
