With respect to either strength or hypertrophy, is there a downside or potential advantage to doing more reps for backoff sets than for work sets? For example, work sets of 4@6, 4@7, 4@8, then 3-4 backoff sets of 8 reps at say RPE 7.

It changes the strength-specific adaptations when you change the rep scheme, but probably minimal (if any) differences in hypertrophy.
Thanks!
