Proper recovery

Is it better to train through delayed onset muscle soreness or wait for full recovery?

I ask because my first session of linear progression was 48 hours ago and I can barely walk thanks to DOMS. Being the meathead that I am, I’m on my way to the gym. Am I overtraining? Is my question relevant? Feel free to refer me to any previous posts I may have missed if this is redundant.

GW,

It is not necessary to wait until DOMS dissipates in order for you to train productively again. As you become more trained, you’ll tend to get less sore while also being able to tolerate more training. This is good, as you’ll need to train more to continue to get results.

That all being said, we would not recommend LP as a training program at this time. We would recommend our Beginner Template or free Beginner Prescription instead, as they’re both much better, more complete programs.

Jordan, going back to soreness being less and less prevalent over time/exposure to training: would it ever be a cause for concern when soreness is experienced after every session, assuming caloric intake/water, etc. being adequate? Or would it simply be a case of, “Just train more”?

Yes, I would not assume someone to be very sore after the majority of their training sessions if it’s probably programmed. While training more can help, I’d be more inclined to alter their programming in this case.
