Real quick bicep curl question

Hello, i am just wondering, does wrist position matter much during bicep curls for strength & hypertrophy? I noticed my wrists are normally a bit extended, and when i forcefully keep them straight i feel the exercise more in my biceps and less in my forearms throughout the movement. However i know that my anecdotal experience does not usually translate to something meaningful :joy:. Thanks for your time.

Short answer, not really.

Long answer, your wrists will almost always be slightly extended when you’re grabbing onto something hard. Why? When you grab something with all your might, the hand orients itself to achieve an optimal length-tension relationship for the contributory muscles, which are inside and outside of the hand. They influence one another to optimize grip strength, which requires the wrist to be in a slightly extended position if possible. Active insufficiency is the textbook word for what happens when you try to do this in flexion, i.e. when a muscle becomes too short (the finger flexors inside and outside the hand) to produce optimal force.
