Strength 1 Gen 2 questions

About to start the new Gen 2 Strength 4 day and I was curious if it made sense if I were to use the Sumo Deadlift on the Day 1 supplemental hinge (I selected the 2-count pause DL) if my primary DL is conventional. I have not trained the Sumo movement much(I did use it as a Pause DL in my last PB1Gen2 run), and this would admittedly just be a way for me to have some fun trying to ingrain the movement.

Similarly, in the Block 2 Day 1 Accessory Squat of 3-1-0 Tempo Squats, are Front Squats an appropriate use? They’d still be the 3-1-0 tempo, but just like above, a fun way for me to ingrain a new movement without losing sight of the goal of the program (hopefully, anyway!).

Finally, I know it’s always recommended to repeat the last week of a block so long as you’re seeing progress, does this apply to this program as well? Or work straight though and repeat week 10 as advised in the text?

Thanks for all you guys do!

Hey Chet,

Welcome back to the forum. Generally speaking, I think doing both sumo and conventional in the same program is fine unless someone is close to a meet or test. If you don’t have a meet coming up and this is more recreational, training the sumo deadlift is fine with me. You can also do front squats if you like as an accessory squat. There are few restrictions here

For programming in general, I’d likely keep the training the same week over week if you’re still making progress and having fun.

Good luck. Let us know how it goes!

Hello Jordan and team,

I am currently also training according to the new Strength 1 Gen 2 template, 4-day PL version and am preparing for the German Masters Championships at the end of March.
It’s fun and I like the division into upper and lower body.
I have the feeling that my passive structures are also doing better with it, even if they are exposed to more “stress” in the respective units, but can regenerate better than in the full body setting due to the longer break until the next unit.

My question:
On the lower body days in block 2, which I am currently in, the following is required in slot 2 (SQ or DL variant):
4@6, 4@7, 4@8, -10%from 4@8 x 4 and 1 rep @83% e1RM.

What is the last single used for, which in my case has about the load of the top set @8.
My last workout with paused deadlift looked like this:

150 kg x 4
155 kg x 4
160 kg x 4
147.5 kg x 4
160 kg x 1

Does it make sense to lift another single after the back off with the load that I previously lifted to 4@8? Or am I making a mistake or am I reading the programming incorrectly?

Thanks for your support

Christian

Hey Christian,

I view the single rep afterwards as practice. It is likely close to ~ RPE 7 given the fatigue from the workout. The intensity also increases over the course of the block. Check out the section on fatigue singles in the eBook accompanying the template
