USSF Fall Classic and Template Progression

Good afternoon Barbell Medicine,

I am considering signing up for the 2018 USSF Fall Classic in Chicago (October 27th) and would like to request your input regarding template progression in preparation for the meet. Most recently, I have completed the Bridge, the Bridge 2.0, and just finished the 3rd week of HLM. My original plan (before I became aware of the meet in Chicago) was: HLM->Hypertrophy->12 Week Press. It is my understanding that a meet at the end of the 12 Week Press template would be ideal. However, given the timetable, I won’t be able to run this progression in time for the meet. What recommendations would you have for this situation? Or should I simply run the progression as listed and wait to compete at a later date? I would give priority to long-term development in the event that competing in this meet is not feasible.

Some additional information:
Age: 25
Height: 5’ 9"
BW: 190 lbs.

Singles:
Squat: 365
Deadlift: 425
Press: 205
Bench: 310

Thank you for your time!

-Josh

Hi Josh,

Glad you’re going to compete! Looks like you have time to run the 12 week press template now and be ready for that event. That’s what I would do and then come back to the HLM or hypertrophy after your meet.

Thanks Leah!
