Hi there,
I had my elbow flare up a couple of weeks (months?!) ago and I’m working around that, currently on the new pb1. I’m doubling the reps, and staying conservative on RPE (0.5-1 off). Should I adjust sets as well, eg. take one off to adjust for the volume?
Related q: I’ve had my elbow, an ankle I rolled a couple weeks back, and my sternum flare up at the same time coming down with a “summer flu”. Ankle is better, elbow and sternum still hurt on ocassion. Anything I can do other than tweak my training plan?
Thank you!
Hi there!
Sorry to hear about the persistent symptoms with the elbow and sternum. If the symptoms aren’t improving with your current approach, I would recommend getting a bit more aggressive with getting further away from failure (lower RPE), adding variety (in movement selection), and slowing the tempo (to reduce load). I don’t think reducing the # of sets to match volume is usually necessary, but the specific pain you have may do better with that. I just don’t have a good sense of that right now from the report here.
If the program mods aren’t working sufficiently, I would recommend a consultation with our pain and rehab team to get to the bottom of this more quickly.
