Hello,
I was just at the cardiologist and was told that I have a bicuspid aortic valve. As of now, nothing is a serious issue, but the doctor recommended that I stop strength training all together and just stick to low intensity exercise. Is he exaggerating? If he is right, what should I stick to?
Thank you so much,
Grant
Why were you seeing a cardiologist?
Family history of heart disease.
If that’s the only reason – i.e., you have had no signs, symptoms, or issues related to heart disease, it is unclear to me why you were referred to a cardiologist, or why your cardiologist was evaluating your heart valves at all (presumably this was found on an echocardiogram).
Obviously I cannot directly contradict your cardiologists advice for your particular case.
With that said, in general (and with the information you provided) I do not think I would have gone down this diagnostic route, nor would I have given the same advice, assuming there was nothing else abnormal found on the echocardiogram – which, again, was probably not necessary in the first place, unless there’s some other piece of the puzzle here that hasn’t been revealed.
