Carbs and grilles food

Hi Jordan.

  1. Kind of a If It Fits Your Macros IIFYM question. If I am able to keep within my carb goals does it matter if I get most of them from cereals or bread? I generally stick to high-fiber cereals and bread. I’m getting a lot of sugar in. How big of a problem is this? Should I worry about the sodium intake from bread?

I know you’ve mentioned that you’re a big cereal guy before in order to get in enough calories to maintain weight. What are your go-to cereals these days?

  1. I’ve seen in your red meat article and some older posts of yours in which you recommend <50g grilled food per week and I’m wondering if this recommendation still holds? I really love to toast my bread/ sandwich and I love grilled cheese. Should I worry about this? Is eating burnt food bad for us? Like are there any health problems it could cause?

  2. What’s you view on full fat cheese as protein and fat source

Thanks in advance

Zanderman,

  1. Provided you’re getting a lots of fruits and vegetables in AND you’re eating the correct amount of calories, I wouldn’t worry about any of this stuff. I prefer whole grains to refined sugars, of course. I’ve been eating a lot of wheat squares, personally.

  2. Where in my red meat article to I recommend <50g of grilled food per week? I know I recommend <50g of processed meat 3x/wk or something like that, but not grilled foods universally.

  3. I think they’re fine, though not great for protein per calorie (when that’s important).

Thanks for reply

  1. Why do you prefer whole grains to refined (whole grain) cereals? Should I worry about sugar during bulking phase?

  2. Sorry, it’s my bad. You recommend it on Instagram in a Q&A. I have attached a photo. So, what’s your view on grilled food (bread, cheese…)? Is eating processed white meat (chicken, turkey) also that bad?

  3. Is 1-1.5g/kg of fat too much?

Whole grain cereals and whole grain other foods are equivalent. Not sure what you mean.

Yes, in relation to the smoked food, as this makes the meat processed.

No, provided the other recommended dietary pattern pieces are in play

I’re read your article and many others about red meat/ processed meat. But, what do we mean by, “processed meat”? It’s not clear exactly if your recommendations relate also to processed chicken such as cold cuts, sausages, nuggets …? How much is safe to eat?

Hey folks! I totally get the struggle of trying to balance carbs and delicious grilled food. Personally, I find that adding some grilled veggies alongside my protein helps satisfy the craving while keeping it relatively balanced.
