Caffeine can be a diuretic in some cases.
For example, caffeine ingestion by folks who normally don’t consume it due tend to produce more urine in the short term. Similarly, large doses (< 500mg) ingested by folks who normally consume caffeine also tends to increase urine production.
For habitual coffee drinkers, coffee (and its caffeine content) no longer increases urine production and is not a diuretic. This “tolerance” seems to wear off in ~ a week or so when people stop consuming caffeine.
