Diet drinks and insulin response

I’ve read conflicting information about diet and “zero” calorie drinks, specifically whether or not they cause an insulin spike. Some sources claim the body releases insulin because it thinks it’s getting sugar. I’ve seen other sources claim this isn’t so. Do diet drinks cause a spike; is the spike as high as it would be with a sugar drink; and are there other concerns with diet drinks?

Insulin levels go up a little bit compared to baseline, but overall this is meaningless and you don’t see any effect because of it. It’s also less than a sucrose or real sugar drink and you’ll eat/drink more calories with real sugar.

Jordan, have you seen any substantial evidence that drinking drinks with artificial
sweeteners negatively affects the micro biome in a way that affects the metabolism with respect to carbs and sugars?
