I’d hate to ask this, but where does all the “extra” protein go again?
Say if you were diabetic, or borderline diabetic, and one was for some reason eating A LOT of protein … just suppose ~2xBW# in grams, say 350g for 180# person.
(you can only imagine where’d someone would get this kind of advice).
Daily Carbs and Fats are reasonable amounts.
Doesn’t quite a bit of that excess protein get converted into glucose?
And that takes some time from what I understand?
Isn’t that person’s glucose numbers going to constantly be high…
…between the excess protein (“a slow drip” of glucose) and the normal carb intake at the time of the meal?
Could that be hurting insulin sensitivity and/or contributing to excessively high blood sugar.
If the person is in a caloric surplus, sure that could be a problem. If not, it probably doesn’t matter outside of the kidney issues the person may have as a result of their diabetes (or other cormorbidities like hypertension).
That said, if in a caloric deficit I’m not sure it matters from an insulin sensitivity standpoint- though the kidney concerns are still there. It’s also terrible diet advice that does not improve any outcome like strength, hypertrophy, body composition, etc.
