Fat Cells and Weight Loss

Hello BBM,

I have run the Hypertrophy I programs multiple times and the beginner template too. My strength and muscle gains took off since I started using the BBM templates and ate at a caloric surplus. The problem is that I gained too much weight during this last year while running the programs, which in turn made me gain a lot of body fat. I was skinny fat prior to that and decided to bulk anyway.
here are the measurements
before: BW was 74kg and waist was 33 inches
after: BW was 88 kgs and waist was 36 inches
I have started cutting and am already down to 75 kilos after 3 months.
i have recently heard people talk about “fat cells” and that they increase in number when weight gain occur and how they can’t be removed, causing problems when losing fat and making fat gain easier. Is there any validity to this? Or at least to the magnitude in which I bulked to? Does this mean that there will now be a cap to how lean I can get or a permanent effect this can have on my physique? Or is this really nothing to worry about?

Thanks for all that you guys do, I can’t stop thanking BBM for the impact It has had on my life!

Yea, fat cells tend to stick around unless you cut them out. They don’t seem to have a correlation between people who are prone to obesity or resistant to it outside of the fairly obvious association between individuals with obesity being at higher risk for obesity.

Liposuction= cut them out.

I see. Does that mean that every time one gains fat, fat cells are created as well, thus making it harder to lean out in the future? I suppose this is all dependent on genetics, with some ppl who don’t accumulate fat cells and others who do.

I suppose this also means one should really be careful when gaining weight…

Thanks doc!

Yes, fat cells are created, but no, it is not necessarily harder to lean out. Yes, I agree that purposeful weight gain should be done cautiously if at all.

Unfortunately, getting rid of the fat cells that have filled the entire body is very difficult. People who are very overweight resort to plastic surgery. Of course, trying all kinds of weight loss methods is necessary before deciding on surgery. You should understand that you should not use aggressive ways to lose weight. Starvation, restriction, and drinking diets have a very negative effect on your body.
