I get hungry in a calorie deficit

Hunger, what do?

Perhaps unsurprisingly, I make plans for a reasonably calorie restricted day of eating, and then I have difficulty sticking to my plan because I’ve eaten dinner, and I’m hungry.

I would say behaviorally this seems to happen the most at night, i.e. if I went to sleep I wouldn’t be eating as much.

Having difficulty sticking to a reasonable plan due to hunger.

I try to eat things that are reasonably high in protein and low in fat when I get ‘hungry,’ as in not to stray too far by accidentally inhaling too many calories.

However, my goal is weight loss and I am having trouble sticking to my plan for weight loss.

This is a pretty common issue we see and the solution tends to be highly individual. A few thoughts:

  1. Increase dietary fiber intake
  2. Allocate larger amount of calories to your last meal
  3. Allocate calories for a pre bed snack
  4. Make meals in advance
  5. Engage in some sort of physical activity immediately after dinner or before bed, e.g. yoga, walking, cycling, etc. that gets you out of the kitchen

Hey Jordan, gonna ask here instead of opening another thread, is it ok to consume a lot of fiber (50-60 g a day) on a regular basis? I find I easily hit the 38g target and very often end with 55g or more at the end of the day. I eat a lot of veggies on both lunch and dinner

I would prefer you start new threads so people can find information easier.

Per our podcast on fiber, it’s fine to consume that much fiber.

Thank you for the answer!

As for starting new threads, duly noted, will do so next time
