Hi BBM
I’m 37 years old. Weigh 84kg, 5’8”, 36inch waist.
Shift worker.
I lift 3x a week and meet the current guidelines for cardio respiratory exercise
I eat a mostly healthy diet and eat plenty of fruit and vegetables.
I tried a ‘dreamer bulk’ when I started lifting. I’ve been overweight now for the past 7 years (although have been skinny fat since teens) and have never been able to lose weight despite, repeated attempts at dieting.
I’m in the UK and could purchase Wegovy or Maunjaro with my current BMI.
I wondered what your recommendations might be. Do you think my BMI is high enough to justify using weight loss jabs, or persevere in dieting.
TIA
Mark
Hey Mark,
Thanks for the post. I think that this discussion is likely best had with your physician, as I believe these medications warrant continuous monitoring for side effects, efficacy, and so on. I also think we should call them anti-obesity medications or vs. weight loss jabs, as the crossfire with vaccines being labeled “jabs” probably results in a negative connotation.
In any case, individuals with a BMI between 25-29.9 with no chronic medical conditions from excess body fat are generally not great candidates for these medications. I don’t know your medical history to weigh-in on that further, but I think those are reasonable guidelines.
I don’t personally have an issue with more liberal use of these medications given the safety profile. However, I do think I’d want to make sure intensive lifestyle intervention has taken place prior to going down that road, likely with the help of a professional. That’s something we can do, though there are a number of other professionals available too.
