Hi guys, thanks again for keeping up the great forum. I have read your information on low t, and wanted to ask some questions. I have , been advised for some years that my T levels are borderline V Low, (im currently 40, weight train 4-5 times per week for last 2 years solid (till i just hurt my dam back) I dont recall my actual T levels but it was tested three times about 7 years ago and was borderline low normal. (I was tested as part of conception process as visited an endocrinologist) …The endo said yep, its low take TRT see how you go, I opted not to from fear really and my GP countering the advice …stating if u dont really need it dont do it) due to prostate cancer risks being elevated… so i was wondering if these risks are substantiated or just opinions? and should i go and get them re-checked from a general health / recovery maximisation perspective? I dont really have any symptoms accept recovery and tiredness, but thats probably normal at 40 with family and busy life…any advice be great…thanks heaps guys
I discussed these topics at length in this article: https://startingstrength.com/article/clinical-testosterone
If you think you have symptoms and would like to get it checked, go ahead (assuming it gets checked correctly).
Just to re-iterate what Austin said. Make sure you get it checked properly. Follow the recommendation in the article for all necessary testing prior to starting any TRT. There are some health risks associated with TRT. But when you are on TRT, the doctor will keep a very close eye on these, especially the prostate. You will be getting regular PSA and DRE tests (annually). They should also be asking you for any symptoms associated with this at every visit.
One interesting thing I’ve picked up since seeing lots of folks for this is that most doctors completely butcher the diagnosis and then the second doc who comes along is stuck between a rock and a hard place. Do we take the patient off TRT for months just to get a diagnosis or do we keep treating without REALLY knowing if we’ve done our due medical diligence? It’s a shitty place to be.
