Hi,
Id like to ask your thoughts on lifting with one kidney. It was removed when 18, now 35 and training on and off for a year, very under trained and seem to struggle building muscle. Is there any thing I should be doing or considering in regards to nutrition and protein specifically? Is it still okay to take creatine? I seem to find conflicting advice on protein and very slow struggle to build muscle.
How old are you?
Why did you undergo a nephrectomy?
Is your remaining kidney functioning normally?
What does your training look like?
35
I had an accident. Apparently the one removed wasn’t functioning fully anyway.
Yes it is. It is enlarged but functioning fine. I have yearly checks.
Bad attempt at sslp that I did for too long, got sick and dropped a lot of weight. I have done bridge 1 e1rm s-100 d-150 p-46 kg bodyweight is currently 82kg at 6ft - not a lot of muscle and still quite tubby in areas
We can’t provide you with specific medical advice to your individual situation, but if the single remaining kidney is healthy, standard protein recommendations should be fine.
Regarding creatine – this is the only evidence I’m aware of for this specific situation: Effect of short-term high-dose creatine supplementation on measured GFR in a young man with a single kidney - PubMed (yes, a short term case report).
That’s good to hear.
Am I right assuming muscle development and strength will be slower build to with one?
Thank you.
I don’t see why that would be the case.
