Hi barbell medicine,
My question is regarding left ventricular hypertrophy seen in athletes. Particularly, what causes this hypertrophy to be beneficial while hypertrophy seen in systolic/diastolic heart failure is more of a maladaptive process? Is it a combination of sarcomeres added in series and in parallel that adds up to having both an increase in left ventricle chamber size while also increasing the potential contractility?
My apologies if this question is out of the scope of the forum, but I haven’t received a good answer from my professors and have struggled to figure out the mechanism of this on my own.
