Worth it for an older guy to supplement BCAAs (or just leucine)?

I’m 63, 6’ 3", 205 lbs, pretty untrained (just started Beginner Template, after SSNLP a couple of years ago).

Would it likely be worth it – in terms of noticeably impacting strength gains and/or improving recovery – for me to supplement with BCAAs?

I get about 160g protein across 4 meals a day. My first meal is plant-based (hemp, pea protein). After that, mostly animal protein, as well as 10 servings of veg / fruit, some grains, light on sugar / processed carbs.

Thanks.

I don’t think it would be advantageous to supplement BCAAs in this situation, but I do think increasing your protein intake by another 20-40 grams would be good. Save for that, I have no qualms with your diet.

Is this recommendation age-related?

In the context of a vegetarian breakfast, relative training status, and total Calorie intake, yes.

Glad you asked the followup question, Rob, cuz you got the good Dr. Feigenbaum to give us the background rationale.

Thank you,
