Since many of the things I always thought to be true turned out to be not as true as I thought after following you and your pages.
So recently I thought about the Acid-Base Balance (if thats the correct term). My wife told me that I smell quite acidic at times and I even had a gastroscopy because of it.
That came out without any major concerns luckily.
But again, I often lack motivation to go to the gym because I am just tired after work and espacially after eating although I like working out. Could the tiredness come from too much acid in my body or too much cafein (I have to be honest, I drank very much sugar free soda in the last month but I am going to cut that completely)
Now I thought about pursuing a more “base focused” nutrition. Is that really a thing or should it be enough to eat whole foods; and what determines if a food builds acid or base in the first place?
Have a good day
Your body’s pH is very, very, very (I cannot stress this enough) tightly regulated within a range that’s always basic ~7.3-7.45. You cannot change this with diet without becoming violently ill, perhaps in a life-threatening manner.
I think we have been fairly outspoken about the many ways to consume a health promoting dietary pattern. None of them have anything to do with acidity or base of the foods, as these have nothing to do with the body’s pH level.
Ok thanks for clearing yet another myth,
I have a follow up question that might be a bit naive but pyrosis is a thing, right?
but that has nothing to do with pH levels of the Body but with too much acid in my stomach or “bad” food or…?
Pyrosis is an esoteric term for “heart burn”, aka gastro-esophageal reflux disease (GERD) or “acid reflux.”
Some amount of reflux is normal, but excessive amounts can cause esophagitis and other symptoms. There are many factors contributing to GERD and its severity, including the pH of the refluxate itself.
No, acid-base balance of the body has nothing to do with this.
