I will try to keep it short, so basically I am an intermediate-advanced lifter that used to eat 2500 calories on a mild cut at 300 calories deficit (2kg~ a month at 98kg BW) and that kept me proggressing albeit slow. Now, I don’t have access to my normal training equipment so losing strength so I would like to ask whether decreasing my calories further as my expenditure will be less and my need to keep standards will not be as high. I am thinking to drop to 2000 calories and the only thing I am worrying about is “damaging my metabolism” (I know it’s a vague term and it’s adaptation etc). Basically I am asking if I do it, will I lose weight steadily for some time and able to return at 2800 calories maintenance?
I don’t think exercise really changes energy expenditure that much and see no real reason to actively manage your energy intake outside of what your weight is doing.
It’s more like I can afford not to be at a high performance, so I could lose the weight a bit faster than before without minding that much, only worry is being able to return to maintenance calories of 98kg at 92 kg for example or something close
Losing weight faster can be achieved with a bigger deficit, but you’ll probably lose more muscle mass and maybe take longer to stabilize at that weight. I’m not sure that would be “the move”, as the kids say.
Will stick to the unfortunate slow steadiness then, thank you for the help!
