Been in a -200 deficit the past month, going from 2k to 1800 calories. Tendon pain increased significantly and rehab progress ground to a halt. Just thought I’d pass that on to anyone who is trying to rehab tendonitis and lose weight at the same time.
Hey, thanks for the insight. Although this may be your individual experience, I would not recommend generalizing to others. We have no reason to believe that having a caloric deficit/surplus increases/mitigates symptoms related to teninopathies. Hope the situation improves for you moving forward. Ideally you are altering loading of the symptomatic areas appropriately. See our guide on the topic HERE.
Thanks for the reply. Do you think I should reduce volume, intensity, or both? Do you know why I have this increased pain? Everytime I enter a deficit, I get increased pain symptoms, and when I eat at maintenance or a surplus, symptoms seem to reduce.
Often when looking for correlation, we can deceive ourselves into thinking one exists then become hyper-focused on the idea which does tend to have an affect on us. My usual example is ice cream sales and summer crime rates, both tend to increase at the same time and superficially appear correlated but we know that’s a bit silly and no supportive data for an influence of ice cream on crime rates or vice versa.
I can’t speak to what’s individually appropriate without a consultation. We’d be happy to meet with you remotely. Otherwise, our general advice is outlined in the linked article above.
