So I know you’ve answered similar questions a million times and wrote the To Be a Beast article, but I still feel like nothing I’ve seen exactly answered whether I should be gaining weight at this point or maybe even losing weight. So, my situation quickly…
Started the LP about five weeks ago at a body weight of 210 (now up to 223) and the following numbers:
Squat–165 (now 250)
Deadlift–245 (recently stalled at 335 and had to reset)
Press-- 75 (now 210)
BP-- 115 (now 155)
After a couple weeks I got serious about gaining weight to help my progress, so for about 3 weeks I’ve been at 4,000 calories a day, keeping my protein around 230-250, carbs around 350-400.
I’m 6’3" and long-limbed (wingspan 6’8"). Genetically, I got a wonderful mishmash of tall, lanky and assless from my mom’s side combined with my dad’s short torso and big, fluffy lovehandles. If you’re a Star Wars fan think the singing alien chick from Jabba’s palace.
So… I think I can legitimately say I am both skinny and fat. At my size and frame, I feel like I should be quite a bit heavier to maximize strength/hypertrophy. But my midsection grows so rapidly, I already have about a 42" waist at the belly button. I had actually done a bunch of reading about this before starting but I misunderstood when you brought up the 40" waist thing that you didn’t mean pant size. So I didn’t realize I was blowing past that important marker until yesterday.
Given my genetics, should I stop gaining weight or even lose some weight? Or keep gaining despite the lovehandles?
