Articles on benefits of heavy strength/barbell training in 20s and 30s?

Hey Y’all,

My wife and I are looking at trying the beginner prescription, and we were wondering if it’s really necessary (or super beneficial) to do so much strength training early on. My wife is a physical therapist (DPT) and was wondering if y’all have article references. I could have sworn back in my college days that I heard a kinesiology professor said building up strength early on makes a huge difference in aging gracefully, but I can’t remember any of the details.

Thanks in advance!

We have a whole heavily-referenced article series on youth resistance training, not just 20s and 30s:

I’ve also given a lecture on the topic as it relates to aging: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wJBqBDZoSvQ

These topics are also discussed in various Q&As, podcasts, and other video/article content on the site.
